0781 - Zelda - January 2011 (1 - BEFORE)

Zelda is a 5 yr old, mixed breed dog, weighing about 50 lbs. She was adopted her about 4 yrs ago. She was brought to from a kill shelter in the south. Unfortunately, her current family's lives have changed enough that they feel like they no longer can provide her with the attention she needs and deserves.

Zelda is a very sweet girl – she loves to play and be petted. She is fairly well trained, responding to many commands, including "come", "no bark", "wait", "back-up", "sit", "lay down" and "get-your-ball". The ideal living situation for Zelda would be a house with kids (she loves kids and is very gentle with them), no cat (unless the cat is aggressive enough to teach Zelda boundaries), and someone who will take her on regular, daily walks (she is typically walked for 20-40 min, twice a day).

The vet thinks she is a beagle hound mix, possibly a "blue tick beagle". She is mostly black with brown legs and underbelly, speckled chest and chin, and grey around her muzzle. She has been spayed and is very healthy (i.e. no Lyme disease or heartworm, etc.)
Here is what her foster mom has to say: "About 19 years ago, I went to a local pound looking for a black and brown "mutt" that would be my companion, could go places with me and would always be on her best behavior. I was looking for Miss Zelda. (of course, I was years too early, but that's another story.) she's nothing short of the perfect pet!
Zelda came to stay with me this past weekend. Since then, she has met the resident dogs and they're starting to play with each other- leaving the Xmas tree intact, knock on wood. She's quite a gentle girl. She doesn't jump- on people or the bed. Her tail is always wagging. When she wants a ball thrown, she stands by the toy box and makes this little "hoopf" noise until you say her name. Then she does this little wiggly dance. She LOVES balls.
She will make some family or person complete. She loves kids, but isn't all over them. It's more like she's taking care of them. She's really mellow 96% of the time. I'm reserving the other 4% for those times she sees a squirrel or bird. Then, she's a barker- but only when outside. You won't find a better dog anywhere, so stop looking and put your app in for Zelda!
I'll take fosters like Zelly 5 at a time for the rest of my life! She's perfect!"

Shiloh 1

Shiloh has been adopted!

This is SHILOH, a 2 year old female Beagle mix. Shiloh is very shy. When you first meet her she might be hiding in the back of her cage, but if you just give her a little time and some treats she warms right up. We have seen her romp and play with our staff members in the off-leash area many times. She seems to get along well with other dogs. She is sweet to people of all ages and you would have no trouble bringing her with you wherever you go. She would still do best in a home with no small children, since their fast movements and noise may scare her. Shiloh loves toys, treats, and warm beds where she can safely fall asleep.

Sunday I volunteered at PAWS Atlanta. I took photos of some of the dogs and cats that need homes. I thought I'd also remind people you can find great pets at shelters and in rescue groups. And of course, help control the pet population, please spay and neuter your pets!!
